ATIEL Code of Practice Issue 25 – Press Release 11th March 2025

ATIEL releases Code of Practice Issue 25 further to the publication of the ACEA Oil Sequences 2024 for Heavy Duty Vehicles – 11th March 2025.
ATIEL, the Technical Association of the European Lubricants Industry, has released Issue 25 of its Code of Practice, that provides guidelines for the development of engine oils which meet the latest European ACEA specifications.
ACEA 2024 specifications updated the Heavy-Duty Sequences. Published in October 2024 as the successor for the 2022 ACEA Heavy-Duty oil sequences, their most significant change was the introduction of a new engine oil category F01, which has specific viscosity requirements in comparison to E11-24 oil specifications.

The European Lubricating Grease Institute (ELGI) firmly supports the UEIL/ATIEL PCF calculation methodology – 4th March 2025

The European Lubricating Grease Institute (ELGI) firmly supports the UEIL/ATIEL PCF calculation methodology (Methodology for Product Carbon Footprint Calculations for
Lubricants, Greases and Other Specialities), highlighting our commitment to industry standards and sustainability. We recognise the critical need for consistent and transparent product carbon footprint calculations in the grease and lubricants sector. By collaborating with the ATIEL & UEIL Joint Sustainability Committee, we are dedicated to driving towards the harmonisation of calculation methodologies.

Joint ATIEL & UEIL Webinar: How to use the PCF Calculation Tool? A Practical Introduction

After publishing a comprehensive cradle to gate certified methodology for the calculation of
Product Carbon Footprint (PCF) for lubricants and other specialities, ATIEL & UEIL have
launched the PCF Calculation Tool, an easy to use Excel-based calculator, designed to help
harmonize and streamline the calculation of PCF for lubricants.
This tool is based around the third-party certified “Methodology for Product Carbon Footprint
Calculations for Lubricants, Greases, and Other Specialties”, and will empower lubricant
manufacturers and stakeholders with a user-friendly interface for calculating PCFs.
The tool was developed to address the growing need for harmonization and transparency in
PCF calculations within the industry, enabling transparency, consistency and market
advantage as well as for companies operating in the EU to help comply with reporting
regulations.

Introducing the ATIEL & UEIL Product Carbon Footprint (PCF) Tool – 12th December 2024

The ATIEL & UEIL Joint Sustainability Committee has launched the PCF Calculation Tool, a easy to use Excel-based calculator designed to harmonize and streamline the calculation of PCF for lubricants. This tool adheres to the third-party certified Methodology for Product Carbon Footprint Calculations for Lubricants, Greases, and Other Specialties. It empowers lubricant manufacturers and stakeholders with a user-friendly interface for calculating PCFs.

Industry-First Certification of Methodology for Product Carbon Footprint Calculations for Lubricants, Greases and Other Specialities – 17th October 2024

ATIEL and UEIL are pleased to announce an industry-first certification of the ‘Methodology for Product Carbon Footprint Calculations for Lubricants, Greases and Other Specialities’ by TÜV Rheinland Energy GmbH. This marks a significant milestone in the global effort to standardise carbon footprint calculations for lubricants, fluids, and greases, reinforcing the methodology’s credibility and trustworthiness across the industry.

ATIEL and UEIL Announce the Establishment of a Joint Sustainability Committee – 17th June 2024

On 13th June 2024, ATIEL and UEIL established the formation of the ‘ATIEL & UEIL Joint Sustainability Committee’. Having previously worked closely together on the ‘Methodology for Product Carbon Footprint Calculations for Lubricants and Other Specialities’, the inaugural meeting held in Brussels formally brings together the ATIEL Sustainability and the UEIL Sustainability Committees. The purpose of the Joint Sustainability Committee is to work on matters of mutual interest related to environmental and legislative drivers, including but not limited to the European Green Deal. The Joint Sustainability Committee, chaired by Markus Garb (UEIL) and co-chaired by Mika Kettunen (ATIEL), will focus initially on Product and Corporate Carbon Footprint, Lubricant Use-Phase (including Avoided Emissions), End-of-Life (including Circularity) and Eco-Design for Sustainable Products.

TÜV Rheinland validates the ATIEL and UEIL methodology to calculate and report Product Carbon Footprints (PCFs) for Lubricants and Other Specialities – 30th November 2023

Today we are delighted to announce at the ATIEL Technical Seminar ‘The Lubricants Industry Driving Change’, that TÜV Rheinland Energy GmbH has successfully reviewed the ‘Methodology for Product Carbon Footprint Calculations for Lubricants and Other Specialties (Revision 1)’ and confirmed that it is compliant with international standards for calculating product carbon footprints, the first time such a validation has been conferred on a cradle-togate PCF methodology for the Lubricants, Grease and Specialties industry, anywhere in the world.
